Title
Swans on Hill's Lake (1892-1906)
Subject
Lake Ellyn
Description
This document is a photograph of swans, with the Glen Ellyn Hotel in the background, on Lake Ellyn. The lake was created in 1889 when Thomas E. Hill, L.C. Cooper, and W. H. Luther, who formed the Prospect Park Improvement Association, dammed one of the springs that ran in the area. Hill suggested the name of Lake Ellyn after his wife, Ellen. The Glen Ellyn Hotel, seen across the lake, opened in 1892. The hotel was destroyed by fire in 1906.
